Legato provides structured, individualized drum lessons for beginner through advanced students. Instruction focuses on coordination, timing, technique, musical understanding, and consistent long-term progress.
Individualized Instruction
Each student receives a lesson plan based on their experience, goals, learning style, and musical interests.
Students may work on:
Grip, posture, and playing setup
Stick control and rebound
Hand and foot coordination
Rudiments and technical exercises
Rhythm reading and counting
Timing and metronome skills
Drum-set grooves and fills
Musical styles and song preparation
Ensemble, audition, and performance preparation
Lessons include clear assignments, updated lesson notes, measurable goals, and a practice plan matched to the student’s needs.
Beginner Students
Beginners follow a foundational curriculum designed to develop proper grip, coordinated movement, steady rhythm, basic music reading, and productive practice habits.
Students gradually learn essential rudiments, common drum-set patterns, and how to maintain a consistent pulse while playing with music.
Intermediate and Advanced Students
More experienced students receive focused guidance in technical refinement, advanced coordination, speed, dynamics, improvisation, stylistic vocabulary, ensemble playing, auditions, and performances.
Teaching and Practice Approach
Legato uses a structured but flexible teaching approach. Students are given clear technical priorities while lessons remain responsive to their individual needs, goals, and progress.
Instruction incorporates learning strategies designed to strengthen memory retention, reduce unnecessary repetition, and improve confidence.
Students learn how to:

Performance Opportunities
Performance is treated as a skill that can be developed through preparation and experience.
Students may prepare for school ensembles, bands, auditions, festivals, recitals, live performances, and college applications. Studio class opportunities may also be available for students seeking additional performance experience.
Lesson Structure
Lessons are offered on a recurring weekly basis.
Available lesson lengths may include:

Location
Legato offers on-site drum lessons on Huebner Road near Shavano Park, serving students throughout North Central San Antonio, Deerfield, Inwood, Stone Oak, and surrounding communities.
Enrollment
Before beginning lessons, families should confirm instructor availability, lesson duration, and a recurring weekly time.
After the schedule is approved, students complete the Weekly Lesson Agreement and activate monthly tuition.
