Frequently Asked Questions
We want enrolling in music lessons to feel simple and straightforward. Below is a plain-language overview of how lessons, tuition, scheduling, cancellations, and studio policies work at Legato.
The full Enrollment & Studio Policy Agreement contains the complete terms of enrollment.
Enrollment
Who completes the enrollment form?
Adult students may complete their own enrollment.
For students under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete and sign the enrollment agreement.
Whose payment method can be used for a minor student?
For a student under 18, the payment method should belong to the parent or legal guardian signing the agreement or to that guardian's spouse.
The cardholder must authorize the payment method's use.
What information will I need when enrolling?
We will ask for basic information including:
Student and parent or guardian contact information
Instrument
Instructor
Weekly lesson time
First lesson date
Tuition
Emergency contact information
Payment information
For minor students, we may also ask about authorized pickup arrangements and whether the student may leave independently after a lesson.
Tuition & Billing
How much are lessons?
Our standard lesson rates are:
30 minutes: $32.50 per lesson
45 minutes: $48.75 per lesson
60 minutes: $65 per lesson
Unless another promotional or written rate has been approved, these are the rates used to calculate tuition.
How does monthly tuition work?
Legato uses a 48-lesson instructional year.
Instead of charging a different amount depending on whether a month happens to contain four or five lesson days, annual tuition is divided into 12 equal monthly payments.
At our standard rates, monthly tuition is:
30-minute weekly lessons: $130/month
45-minute weekly lessons: $195/month
60-minute weekly lessons: $260/month
This keeps your tuition predictable from month to month.
Why am I charged the same amount during months with fewer lessons?
Some months naturally contain more lesson days than others.
Rather than changing your bill every month, the cost of all 48 scheduled lessons is divided evenly across the year.
That means one month may contain more scheduled lessons and another may contain fewer, but your regular monthly tuition stays the same.
What happens if I start lessons in the middle of a month?
Your first month will be prorated.
You will only be charged for the remaining scheduled lessons in that month using your approved per-lesson rate.
Your regular monthly tuition begins with the next full calendar month.
When is tuition charged?
Regular monthly tuition is normally charged on the first calendar day of each month.
Depending on your bank or card provider, the transaction may appear on your account slightly later.
How are payments processed?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe.
Legato does not directly receive or store your complete card number.
Does Legato have permission to charge my card for anything it wants?
No.
Your recurring payment authorization covers your regular monthly tuition.
If you later request something additional—such as an extra lesson, class, event, material, rental, or replacement item—we will provide the price or pricing basis before it is provided.
You are only charged for optional services or items that you request or approve.
What happens if my payment doesn't go through?
If a payment fails, we may retry the payment or ask you to update your payment method.
Lessons may be temporarily paused until the account is brought current.
If an unpaid balance remains unresolved, we cannot guarantee that the student's regular lesson time will continue to be held.
Can tuition rates change?
They can, but we will provide at least 30 days' written notice before a new tuition rate takes effect.
Lesson Calendar
How many lessons are included each year?
Our current instructional calendar provides 48 scheduled weekly lessons for each regular lesson day.
For the current instructional year, the calendar runs from September 2, 2026 through August 31, 2027.
When is Legato closed?
For the 2026–2027 instructional year, regular lessons are not scheduled during:
Thanksgiving Break
November 23–29, 2026
Winter Break
December 21, 2026–January 3, 2027
Spring Break
March 8–14, 2027
These breaks are already built into the 48-lesson annual calendar and monthly tuition.
Do we receive a make-up lesson for scheduled studio breaks?
No. Scheduled breaks are already included when the annual tuition and 48-lesson calendar are calculated.
Is Legato closed for every school or federal holiday?
Not necessarily.
Unless Legato announces otherwise, lessons continue on federal holidays, school-district holidays, teacher workdays, and similar dates that are not included in our published studio closures.
Month-to-Month Enrollment
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No.
Enrollment continues month to month.
As long as you remain enrolled, your recurring weekly lesson time is reserved for you.
How do I cancel lessons?
Simply send Legato written notice.
Cancellation may be sent to our official business email, by text to 726-263-3110, or through another written method specifically approved by Legato.
Please send cancellation notices to Legato administration rather than only telling your instructor.
When is the cancellation deadline?
To avoid being enrolled for the following month, we need your written cancellation at least 48 hours before the first calendar day of that month.
For example, to discontinue lessons before September begins, your cancellation would need to be received no later than 12:00 a.m. Central Time on August 30.
What happens if I cancel after the deadline?
If the cancellation deadline has already passed, enrollment continues through the upcoming month and that month's tuition remains due.
Can I stop lessons in the middle of a month?
You may stop attending whenever you choose, but tuition for a month that has already begun is generally not prorated or refunded.
Your monthly tuition reserves a recurring lesson time that has been held specifically for you.
What if we know we'll be away for an extended period?
Contact us before the next billing cycle.
Depending on the circumstances, Legato may be able to pause or adjust billing.
We will make reasonable efforts to preserve your instructor and schedule when you return, but the same teacher, day, time, or room cannot always be guaranteed.
Missed Lessons & Make-Ups
What happens if I need to miss a lesson?
Please send a written cancellation or rescheduling request through a scheduling method approved by Legato.
Can I receive a make-up lesson?
When you give us at least 24 hours' notice, Legato may approve one make-up opportunity.
Make-ups depend on instructor, room, and schedule availability, so we cannot guarantee that the replacement lesson will be at your usual day or time.
How long do I have to use a make-up lesson?
An approved make-up must be scheduled and completed within 30 days of the missed lesson.
After 30 days, the make-up opportunity expires.
Expired make-ups cannot be converted into a refund, tuition credit, or future lesson.
What happens if I cancel with less than 24 hours' notice?
A cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice—or a missed lesson without notice—is normally considered forfeited.
It is not eligible for a make-up, refund, or tuition credit unless Legato approves an emergency exception.
What if I'm late?
No problem—we'll still teach for the time remaining in your scheduled lesson.
Lessons normally still end at their original end time because another student, instructor, or room reservation may immediately follow.
Instructor Cancellations & Changes
What happens if my instructor has to cancel?
If Legato or your instructor cannot provide your scheduled lesson outside one of our published breaks, we will find an appropriate solution.
Depending on the situation, we may:
Provide a qualified substitute instructor
Offer the lesson online
Reschedule the lesson
Temporarily move the lesson to another appropriate location
Provide an appropriate tuition credit
Can my instructor ever change?
Occasionally.
Legato may reassign an instructor when it is educationally or operationally necessary.
If a significant change occurs, we will communicate with you and make reasonable efforts to preserve the student's regular lesson schedule.
Online Lessons
Can a lesson be held online?
Yes, when appropriate and technically feasible.
Legato may authorize an online lesson as an alternative to an in-person lesson.
An online lesson delivered at the scheduled time counts as the student's scheduled lesson.
What if I'm sick?
Please do not attend the studio in person if you have a fever, vomiting, a known contagious illness, or symptoms that could create a significant risk for your instructor or other students.
Normal studio policies apply.
Arriving at the Studio
When should we arrive?
We recommend arriving approximately five minutes before your lesson.
Can I drop my child off early?
Please avoid dropping students off substantially before their lesson.
Legato provides music instruction rather than before-lesson or after-lesson childcare.
Instructional supervision begins when the scheduled lesson starts and ends when the scheduled lesson ends.
Parents and guardians are responsible for arranging timely pickup for minor students.
Can parents sit in during lessons?
Yes
If you would like to observe a lesson, just ask us.
Can siblings or other family members wait at the studio?
Yes, when appropriate.
We simply ask that parents, siblings, and guests avoid noise or activity that could interfere with lessons or other people working in the building.
Children waiting outside a teaching room should remain supervised by their parent or guardian.
Our Studio & Building
Is Legato located in a shared building?
Yes.
Legato operates within a shared professional property.
Students and families are welcome in Legato teaching rooms, designated waiting areas, restrooms, and other approved common areas.
Private offices, storage areas, other studios, and spaces belonging to other occupants should not be entered.
Will my lesson always be in the same room?
Usually, but not necessarily.
We may occasionally change teaching rooms because of scheduling, instrument availability, accessibility, maintenance, or other operational needs.
A room change does not change or cancel your lesson.
Are there parking rules?
Please follow posted parking instructions and building rules.
Vehicles should never block entrances, fire lanes, neighboring businesses, or reserved spaces.
Food, Drinks & Studio Equipment
Can students bring food or drinks?
Food is generally not permitted inside teaching rooms unless specifically approved.
Water is welcome in a secure, closable container. We just ask that it be kept safely away from instruments, computers, and other electronics.
Smoking, vaping, alcohol, and illegal drugs are not permitted on the premises.
Can students use Legato's instruments or equipment?
With instructor permission.
Studio instruments, computers, cameras, audio equipment, furniture, and teaching materials should only be used for their intended purpose and with approval.
Students should normally bring their own required instrument, music, and lesson materials unless another arrangement has been made.
What happens if something is damaged?
Normal wear from ordinary lesson use is expected.
If property is damaged through intentional, reckless, or negligent behavior by a student or guest, the student or responsible parent or guardian may be responsible for the reasonable repair or replacement cost.
Pets & Service Animals
Can I bring a pet to the studio?
Pets and other animals are generally not permitted inside the studio.
Service animals are permitted as required by law.
Other animals require advance written approval from Legato and, when necessary, property management.
Personal Belongings
What if I leave something at the studio?
Let us know and we'll do our best to help locate it.
Items left behind may be kept temporarily while we attempt to identify the owner.
Please remember that students and guests remain responsible for their own instruments, vehicles, and personal belongings, and valuables should not be left unattended.
Safety & Emergencies
What happens if the building has to close unexpectedly?
Sometimes circumstances outside anyone's control—such as severe weather, a power outage, building maintenance, a safety issue, or government action—may make the studio temporarily unavailable.
Depending on the situation, Legato may:
Temporarily relocate the lesson
Move the lesson online
Reschedule it
Provide an appropriate tuition credit
We will communicate the plan as soon as reasonably possible.
What happens during a medical or safety emergency?
Legato may take reasonable emergency action based on the situation and the training and ability of available personnel.
This may include contacting emergency services, contacting the student's parent, guardian, or emergency contact, and providing responders with information reasonably necessary to assist the student.
We do not guarantee that someone trained in first aid or CPR will always be present.
Any charges from emergency or medical providers remain the family's responsibility.
What behavior is expected at the studio?
We want Legato to be a comfortable and safe place for students, teachers, families, and everyone sharing the building.
Students and guests should follow reasonable safety and facility instructions.
Threatening, destructive, discriminatory, harassing, or seriously disruptive behavior may result in removal from the studio or suspension or termination of enrollment.
Photos, Video & Privacy
Does signing up give Legato permission to use my child's photo or performance in advertising?
No.
Your enrollment agreement does not give Legato permission to use a student's name, image, or performance for promotional purposes.
Promotional use requires separate optional consent.
What about studio security cameras?
Security or video monitoring is handled separately from promotional media permission.
Any required acknowledgment or consent for studio security recording is provided separately.
Communication
How will Legato contact me?
We may contact you by email, phone, or text for normal student-related communication such as:
Scheduling
Billing
Studio closures
Emergencies
Lesson and student services
Please keep your contact information current so we can reach you when necessary.
Will Legato send me marketing messages just because I enroll?
The communication permission in the enrollment agreement covers non-marketing communications related to your lessons and account.
Electronic Forms & Signatures
Can enrollment be completed electronically?
Yes.
Enrollment documents, notices, billing records, and signatures may be created and stored electronically.
Typing your name as your electronic signature is treated as your signature when you intend to sign the agreement.
Policy Changes
Can Legato update its policies?
Occasionally, operational policies may need to change.
If that happens, Legato will provide written notice.
A material change involving billing or cancellation will not take effect earlier than the billing cycle identified in that notice.
A new policy will not be used retroactively to create a new charge or materially change services you have already purchased.
Ending Enrollment
Can Legato end a student's enrollment?
In unusual situations, yes.
Legato may suspend or end enrollment because of unresolved nonpayment, unsafe behavior, repeated serious disruptions, material policy violations, or circumstances that prevent an appropriate instructional relationship.
If Legato chooses not to provide lessons that have already been paid for, the appropriate amount will be credited or refunded, after accounting for any amounts properly owed for services already provided or property damage.
