Legato provides structured, individualized violin lessons for beginner through advanced students. Instruction focuses on strong technique, effective practice, musical expression, and consistent long-term progress.

Individualized Instruction

Each student receives a lesson plan based on their experience, goals, learning style, and musical interests.

Students may work on:

Posture and instrument setup

Bow control and tone production

Left-hand coordination and intonation

Shifting, scales, and technical studies

Note reading, rhythm, and sight-reading

Solo and orchestral repertoire

Audition, competition, and performance preparation

Lessons include clear assignments, updated lesson notes, measurable goals, and a practice plan matched to the student’s needs.

Beginner Students

Beginners follow a foundational curriculum designed to establish healthy technique, accurate rhythm and pitch, coordinated movement, and productive practice habits.

After completing the foundational curriculum, lessons become increasingly individualized around the student’s musical interests and long-term goals.

Intermediate and Advanced Students

More experienced students receive focused guidance in technical refinement, shifting, vibrato, advanced bow strokes, orchestral repertoire, auditions, competitions, festivals, and college applications.

Teaching and Practice Approach

Legato uses a structured but flexible teaching approach. Students are given clear technical priorities while lessons remain responsive to their individual needs, goals, and progress.

Instruction incorporates learning strategies designed to strengthen memory retention, reduce unnecessary repetition, and improve confidence.

Students learn how to:

Break difficult passages into manageable steps

Use tempo goals and targeted repetition

Identify the technical cause of a problem

Listen critically

Solve problems independently

Understand the musical purpose behind each assignment

Practice should be purposeful, efficient, and connected to a clear goal.

Performance Opportunities

Performance is treated as a skill that can be developed through preparation and experience.

Students may prepare for school and youth orchestras, auditions, festivals, competitions, recitals, and college applications. Studio class opportunities may also be available for students seeking additional performance experience.

Lesson Structure

Lessons are offered on a recurring weekly basis.

Available lesson lengths may include:

45 minutes

60 minutes

The appropriate lesson length depends on the student’s age, experience, goals, and repertoire.

Location

Legato offers on-site violin lessons on Huebner Road near Shavano Park, serving students throughout North Central San Antonio, Deerfield, Inwood, Stone Oak, and surrounding communities.

Enrollment

Before beginning lessons, families should confirm instructor availability, lesson duration, and a recurring weekly time.

After the schedule is approved, students complete the Weekly Lesson Agreement and activate monthly tuition.
